The Secret of The Yellow Death

The front cover of the book
THE YELLOW DEATH
Written as a mystery story about a medical discovery, The Secret Of The Yellow Death brings the reader the terrifying story of how the yellow fever was devastating to armies and civilian populations. It was until the secret of the disease was uncovered, the Yellow fever was a disease that  In mild cases, caused fever, headache, nausea and vomiting. But yellow fever can become more serious, causing heart, liver and kidney problems along with bleeding (hemorrhaging). Up to 50 percent of people with a more severe form of yellow fever, will die of the disease. The

book described all of those symptoms in captivating, and sometimes gory, detail. The story reveals  the efforts of scientists that struggled against all odds to find a way to stop the spreading of Yellow Fever. Most remarkable in my opinion, are the sacrifices of one's self made by American doctors Walter Reed ( who was a U.S. Army pathologist and bacteriologist who led the experiments that proved that yellow fever was transmitted by mosquito bite), James Carroll, Jesse Lazear, who unfortunately died while testing an antivirus for the yellow fever, and Cuban born physician, Aristides Agramonte. This team moved between the U.S. and the effected region of Cuba, where they study the particular deadly outbreak of the fever. Often, they risk their own lives by being amongst patients and using their own bodies to test their theories of infections and cures. The book provides helpful visual aids by including photographs and colorful drawings, making this scientific data easy to comprehend. This true story is as exiting as any other thriller. It is guaranteed to hold readers spellbound, as they partake in a race against the clock to prevent this outbreak from spreading among wider populations.
