The Odyssey of KP2, A Seal Fighting Against All Odds

BOOK NAME: The Odyssey of KP2
This is a baby monk seal
AUTHOR: Terrie M. Williams

KP2 is a strong seal, fighting against all odds. The book The Odyssey of KP2 was one of the best books I've ever read about and animals. Terrie M. Williams wrote this book to tell  all about the Hawaiian monk seal's journey and how he helped save his species.

KP2 was born on May 1st, 2008. When he  only 2 days old he was soon abandoned by his mother and was left to starve and was attacked by older seals. The NMIS-PIRO picked him up and took care of him while he was growing. They were trying to find a home for KP2 while he was being rehabilitated to live in the wild on his own. They emailed Terrie Williams and asked her to take KP2.

KP2 went through many things like, his mom leaving but many other bad things were about to come his way. Soon after picking up KP2 they discovered he was going blind and there was no way to stop it. KP2 was troubling, he wouldn't eat or drink, all he would do is play. This was one of KP2's habits: spinning in the water. (see video)

As KP2 got better they started to prepare to bring him out to an island to help him gain independence away from humans. But all KP2 did was swim back to the beach where he was born and... play with humans. KP2 caused a rift between the children of Kauai and the fishermen. So KP2 had to move to the sunny beaches of California.

KP2s journey wasn't over, he just kept getting himself in trouble like farting a lot in the car on the drive from the plane to Santa Cruz during the move to California. He also refused to eat and was underweight for his age. Overall this seals life was pretty crazy, with many new challenges thrown at him every day, and trying to save his species from extinction. KP2's amazing story inspired many kids at school to start to clean up the coast in both California and Hawaii. He became the voice of the ocean. This is a heart warming story and was one of my favorite books to read.
