Most people have heard of the amazing Apollo 13 mission, and not because it was a success, it had a ridiculous amount of problems. Everything went wrong from one of the fuel tanks exploding to one of the crew having a kidney problem. But what exactly happened and how did the astronauts and the people at mission control solve them, what really happened? That is what The Apollo 13 mission by Judy Hasday is all about. The original problem was that an wire sparked in one of the fuel tanks and exploded also quickly draining the oxygen in a near by tank. How ever things would only get worse of the crew Of Jim Lovel Fred Haise and John Swigert. A little more about them here: http://airandspace.si.edu/explore-and-learn/topics/apollo/apollo-program/landing-missions/apollo13-crew.cfm.
What was truly amazing is the work of the people at mission control. Who figured out many of the problems, for example how to get rid of the large amount of carbon dioxide when compared to the amount of oxygen. and how to make a filter from what they had on the ship. There where many other problems which the people at mission control solved this was especially amazing because all the data they were getting was from the astronauts who,had a very limited view and a computer with as much power (roughly) as an i-phone.
Additionally the book was also very informative about space travel it self: the history, the science behind it, the creation of NASA and so on. The book started out fairly slow but got better as it went on. This was because in the beginning the book was just going on about supposedly random space travel facts. However as the book went on and started to go into the mission itself it got much better.

Sounds like a great book and I can tell you enjoyed it! Definitely going on my summer reading list!
